Recently we have leveraged our wood products expertise and have begun designing material handling systems and pressing systems for the Composites Market which have allowed us to expanded into the Automotive, Armor and Wind Energy Sectors and we are excited for the new technology and growth potential in these new markets.
General Summary:
Our international sales are allowing us to expand as the Forest Products Industries are developing worldwide and the new technology markets are expanding as well. We have a Buyer opening in our purchasing department and are looking for a seasoned purchasing professional. We are located in beautiful Tacoma, WA and we are looking for candidates capable working with multiple departments and interfacing with engineering to facilitate purchase of the best fit components for our design specifications. You will be a vital part of our team utilizing Made2Manage ERP Systems in your day to day operations to meet company standards and customer specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Involved in the negotiation of contracts supporting the purchase of equipment, materials, services, and other supplies that support all company requirements
- Performs cost analysis and volume planning for purchased components
- Works closely with Engineering and Production to insure that the correct products are ordered in a timely manner
- May recommend cost saving proposals including make-versus-buy analysis, alternative sourcing and vendor evaluation criteria.
- Identifies and resolves invoice vs. purchase order discrepancies and purchase orders that need receipts.
- Establish and maintain strong supplier relations, selecting preferred suppliers and ensuring the most economical cost consistent with quality standards and specifications of purchased assets and resources.
- Establish and maintain a strong team partnership between internal and external customers/suppliers ensuring that purchasing policies and procedures are followed and staying abreast of market trends and pricing.
- Sources requisitions in conformance with Company and departmental policies.
- Issues and tracks orders using the automated M2M system
- Ensures that Purchasing guidelines and policies are adhered to and that all contracts receive thorough legal review.
- Develop and maintain a sound general on-going knowledge of all company departments for use in negotiating terms that meet the needs of the user community.

- Be willing to support and implement strategic sourcing initiatives for the purchasing department
- Other and all tasks assigned by Director of Purchasing or Executive Management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree or comparable training/schooling or work experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
- Five years Purchasing experience
- Strong technical and manufacturing experience required
- Previous ERP System experience desired
- Ability to read blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams and electrical schematics a plus
- Attention to detail
- Good written and verbal business communications skills.
- Ability to be self directed and self motivated with minimal supervision.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently and meet strict timelines.
- Ability to work in a team environment with diverse team members.

Position typically spends 80% of the time in an office environment and 20% of the time in the manufacturing plant environment. Spends approximately 60% of the time at a PC terminal and 40% of the time on the phone, or in design discussions. Some travel may be required. Equipment used: PC and peripherals, fax machine, scanner, calculator and other standard office equipment for recording, storing and presenting information. Must be comfortable around a wide variety of fabrication and machining equipment as well as large and complex manufactured machinery. On occasion, lifting requirements may be up to 25 lbs.
