General Summary:
Our international sales are allowing us to expand as the Forest Products Industries are developing worldwide and new technology markets are expanding as well. We have multiple openings in our electrical design department and are looking for Controls Engineers of all levels, with an emphasis on mid-level and senior level. We are located in beautiful Tacoma, WA . In general you will plan and design electro-mechanical equipment and equipment control systems. Specify hardware and write programs for PLC based control systems for industrial machinery. Electro-mechanical design responsibility may also include: pneumatic, hydraulic circuits and motor control center specification; inverter and servo motor control, instrumentation and MMI hardware and software; operator console, PLC hardware, sensor layout drawings, etc. Must have experience in industrial electrical design, PLC programming, HMI software design, industrial networking, MCC hardware/software configuration, and Closed-Loop Servo control. Hydraulic/Pneumatic control knowledge a benefit. Proficient in AutoCAD and peripheral equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Analyze engineering sketches, specifications, drawings and related data to determine electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, motion and control components for mechanical equipment.- Use computer assisted design/drafting software i.e., AutoCAD to create detail drawings and schematics, in house and during field install of equipment.
- Uses computer programming software to program PLC based control systems for manufacturing equipment.
- Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control.
- Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data and make appropriate changes to equipment.
- Field commission of equipment at customer field sites, make equipment adjustments and may make recommendations to engineers for design modifications to eliminate malfunctions.
- Author maintenance and instruction manuals for the equipment end users.
- Interface internally with engineering department, sales, purchasing, shop personnel and project management.
- Interface externally with vendors, customers, consultants and contractors to insure that the delivered systems meet technical performance specifications.
Qualifications:

BSEE degree or four years experience in electro-mechanical equipment design.- Four years of experience directly related to designing electro-mechanical equipment for manufacturing environments.
- Experience in the design of panel, wood or pulp and paper product handling equipment is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, motion and control components.
- Good computer knowledge and proficiency with various software packages like AutoCAD, MSWord, Excel, Access, Outlook, RS Logix 5 and 500, RSLogix 5000, and Wonderware Intouch to name a few.
- Ability to read drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams and electrical schematics.
- Experience in field start up, testing, and trouble shooting of equipment.
- Strong oral and written business communication skills.
- Excellent understanding of business etiquette to insure clear communications and maintain good relationships with customer contacts.
- Ability to problem solve and make reasoned decisions using multiple input sources.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently and meet strict timelines.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple departments and outside sources to ensure successful project completion.
- Ability to work independently and be self motivated with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.

The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Typically 70% of the time is spent in an office environment and 30% in a manufacturing environment. Approximately 60% of the office time is at a PC terminal and 10% on the phone. Travel requirements may include both international and domestic travel. Equipment used: PC and peripherals, fax machine, calculator and other standard office equipment for recording, storing and presenting information. During equipment start up, the use of hand tools may be required. On occasion, lifting requirements may be up to 25 lbs.
