SUMMARY:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Confers with Sales, Engineering Manager, to determine specifications and technical scope of project.
• Provides technical sales support for project conceptualization, cost and estimation.
• Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer specifications.
• Defines technical conceptualization of mechanical equipment to meet engineering principles and company standards.
• Designs and drafts the master top level general arrangement drawing to illustrate the relation of proposed installation to customer facility.
• Prepares technical specification list of project for utilization by engineering team.
• Schedule review meetings for project design and function.
• Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine mechanical designs.
• Plans and layouts the specifications for the design of mechanical or electromechanical machinery.
• Complies data on standardization and interchangeability of parts to increase engineering efficiencies and reduce project cost.
• Assist in the development of new product design incorporating latest technology.
• May evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate malfunctions or changes in machine function.
• Specializes in one or more specific fields of mechanical engineering discipline, such as hydraulics, controls, electro-mechanics, etc.
• Review customer quotation request documents and prepare required conforming bids.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• BSME/BSEE degree or comparable training/schooling in mechanical design engineering or ten years related experience.
• Five or more years related experience in manufacturing, project management and management.
• Demonstrated knowledge of AutoCAD 2004, Excel, MS Word, MS Access and Outlook. Inventor experience is a plus.
• Demonstrated knowledge of panel handling or wood products or pulp and paper equipment is desired.
• Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, motion and control components.
• Ability to read blueprints, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams and electrical schematics.
• Ability to design mechanical equipment from conception to finalization.
• Ability to collaborate with control engineers, shop personnel and customers.
• Ability to be self directed and self motivated.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently and meet strict timelines.
• Ability to work in a team environment with diverse team members.

Position typically spends 90% of the time in an office environment and 10% of the time in a manufacturing environment. Spends approximately 90% of the time at a PC terminal and 10% of the time on the phone. Some travel may be required.

Equipment used: PC and peripherals fax machine, calculator and other standard office equipment for recording, storing and presenting information. When hands-on start up is required, may need to use hand tools and physically interface with large equipment. On occasion, lifting requirements may be up to 25 lbs.
